In an individual interaction design project, I explored how to improve the user experience of Fresh Ventilation’s app, which is used to control ventilation systems at home.
An earlier heuristic evaluation had identified several usability issues, including navigation, contrast and feedback. I wanted to see how these issues affected people actually using the app, so I conducted observations and interviews with two users.
The research showed that certain features and settings were difficult to find and understand, especially for people unfamiliar with ventilation terminology. Based on what I learned, I put together a list of requirements and started sketching out a simpler interface.
I began with a paper prototype to explore different solutions before moving on to an interactive high-fidelity prototype in Figma. I decided to make the most commonly used features easier to access, while keeping the more advanced settings in a separate section.
The goal was to make the app’s existing features easier to find, understand and use. The next step would have been to test the prototype with users and refine the design based on their feedback.
Project Brief:
An individual project in interaction design and user-centered design, focusing on analyzing, evaluating and improving an existing digital interface.
The assignment involved heuristic evaluation, user observations and interviews to identify user needs and develop a set of requirements. Based on the findings, design ideas were explored through sketches and paper prototypes before being developed into an interactive high-fidelity prototype.
The project followed an iterative design process, focusing on usability, prototyping, design decisions and reflecting on how digital interfaces can be improved to better meet users’ needs.
